Breast Reconstruction
Breast reconstruction is a general term to describe numerous techniques used by plastic surgeons to recreate a natural appearing breast in a patient who has had surgery on the breast for cancer. This could include a mastectomy, quadrantectomy or lumpectomy. While there are many options, breast implants have long been the procedure of choice for most women as they were the most straight-forward procedure. Recently, there has been increasing use of patients' own fatty tissue to create a breast mound. Breast reconstruction is not only the surgery of the affected breast but also includes any surgery to the opposite unaffected breast to achieve symmetry. Whether it is a breast augmentation or reduction, it is not uncommon to require bilateral breast surgery to achieve a balanced result. At Ponte Vedra MedSpa Plastic Surgery & Laser Center we are always available to our Jacksonville patients to discuss the options available for breast reconstruction. We specialize in advanced breast implant reconstruction and fat grafting for lumpectomy defects. We would be happy to discuss the numerous options in breast reconstruction that are available to you.
